Maura Dewey grew up on Vancouver Island and has been a member of Canada’s National Sailing Team since 2017. Maura competes in the ILCA 6, the women’s single-handed dinghy. She has won national and North American championships, World Cup races, and competed in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic test event. 

 

Maura has also made waves internationally in other classes, including the J70 and Melges 24. For her latest challenge, she’s taken on the high-speed International Moth.

 

Maura holds a Bachelor of Science in Atmospheric Physics from the University of Victoria and is currently a PhD candidate at Stockholm University in Sweden, where she delves into meteorology and machine learning. Passionate about blending her love for science and sailing, Maura regularly holds weather seminars for sailors and provides meteorological consulting for major competitions.
